For this exceptional artist’s book, André Butzer has chosen 47 poems by Friedrich Hölderlin on the four seasons, written between 1793 and 1843. To accompany the poems, he has created 40 watercolors. In unison words and images ponder man’s dwelling upon this earth, in the humblest and most poetic way. This precious, bilingual Art Edition presents the poems in German and English, oftentimes translated for the first time by Alta L. Price. Each book is signed by André Butzer and the watercolors are reproduced as intricate facsimiles, tipped-in by hand. The Art Edition comes in a specially designed clamshell box with one of the 40 original watercolors.
