For this exceptional artist’s book, André Butzer has chosen 47 poems by Friedrich Hölderlin on the four seasons, written between 1793 and 1843. To accompany the poems, he has created 40 watercolors. In unison words and images ponder man’s dwelling upon this earth, in the humblest and most poetic way. This precious, bilingual Collector’s Edition presents the poems in German and English, oftentimes translated for the first time by Alta L. Price. In a specially designed clamshell box, each book is signed by André Butzer and the 40 watercolors are reproduced as intricate facsimiles, tipped-in by hand.
